LONDON – COPENHAGEN – CELLE

Caroline MatildA, QUEEN.

DIE EXHIBITION PUBLICATION

An incompetent king, a freedom-loving queen and a personal physician who wants to revolutionise the Danish state – they become the protagonists of one of the greatest political scandals of the 18th century. The special exhibition ‘London – Copenhagen – Celle’ and the publication of the same name are dedicated to this ‘Struensee affair’ and the life of the Danish Queen Caroline Matilda.

The 248-page, high-quality book contains contributions from Danish, British and German scholars on the history of Caroline Matilda and related current issues of personal and social challenges.

It also presents the results of numerous accompanying projects carried out with young people on this topic as part of the exhibition and in cooperation with the Street & Art team of the KulturAllerorts e.V. association.

With its unique combination of academic contributions and subjective young perspectives, the publication addresses issues ranging from gender roles and personal fulfilment to the influence of the media.

As a trilingual publication, it is available in German print and also contains all texts in digital form in English and Danish translation. The book is now available for €29.90 in the museum shop at Celle Castle and can be ordered from bookshops. Orders can also be placed by emailing residenzmuseum@celle.de.
